Located 10 km from downtown Lyon, and close to Lyon Saint-Exupéry international airport and TGV high-speed train station, the city of Décines covers an area of 1700 hectares (4200 acres) in the Lyon Plain, in the lowlands of the Alpine region of Bas-Dauphiné.

The altitude of the town ranges from 176 to 237 metres, at the top of a moraine hill overlooking the fluvio-glacial plain.

Décines enjoys a high-quality living environment with many public parks and gardens, as well as Grand Large lake, a prime attraction for sailing and fishing enthusiasts.

The town is crossed by Jonage Canal, stemming from the Rhone River and the smaller river Rize, a delightful place for a stroll or bicycle ride.

The north section of Décines lies within the Miribel-Jonage Park where facilities and spaces are available for all types of outdoor sports activities.

With a sense of intelligent growth, Décines has preserved a balance between various types of housing, and between built-up and natural spaces. The town also plays an active role in the development of the eastern Lyon metropolitan area.
